About You and From Me

I’ve never read a book nor an essay nor even a poem about love that left me unsatisfied — not because the writer is a gifted storyteller, but because their muse is precious. Their name is the most memorable word in every storied romance.

When you speak your beloved’s name, they live forever and maybe that’s why I know of Helen and Heer by name before notoriety.

But about you and from me comes a magic unforeseen.
About you, I can speak no perfect thing
But a million good ones.

Because when you found the shipwreck between my ribs
You crawled through the clutter to hold my hand
And that deserves words.

And next to you I rise like the tide
I say — I can. I will.
Next to you, I believe it.

When I told you always, I meant it.

And so I give you this -
My words, my promise, my warmest love.
About you, and from me.
